A new week, more birthdays....

Two more birthdays today to round out the holiday weekend with lots of celebrations all over the place...Josh Korkowski (#31) seemed to have the Midas touch with baby Austin Roers on Thanksgiving Day when he got the baby to fall asleep for mom and dad, and they thank him! Then we have Evan Oxentenko (Shawn and Amy Korkowski Oxentenko) who turns 7 today. This little guy is one serious fisherman and champions both the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins....he seems to know more than most adults when it comes to these events in his life!

My hour at Mass probably needs to be repeated....

You just never know what will happen, where or when.....today we decided to attend the 4 PM Mass at Osakis and had just settled into the pew when I looked up at the beautiful painting of Mary on the back wall of the old altar. (It really is gorgeous!) As I'm looking at it, my eyes were suddenly drawn down a bit as a HUGE rat trotted across the back of the altar!! I almost lost my cookies (since I have a real phobia about mice). There was an older couple a few pews up and I know she saw it too as her head was jerking back and forth and then she proceeded to give her husband the low-down!) Needless to say, the next hour was pretty much spent keeping my eyes peeled for another appearance (not to be!)...not sure how much I really got out of the time spent there. As I greeted the priest after Mass, I asked if he had seen his unwelcome visitor, which he hadn't. When I told him what and where, he became a bit giddy with nervousness....I don't think he has a fondness for rodents either. :) Hope I don't have nightmares tonight!! Bev

It's a full weekend of celebrations

It seems just about every Korkowski family has some celebration going on this Thanksgiving weekend, and today is no exception. Our hoedown host and hostess, Norb & Donna Korkowski, are celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary today, and Mitch Korkowski (#31) is celebrating his birthday. (Mitch doesn't look too happy about that!) Have a good day everyone....

Amazing Grace and more!

This morning Derald, Theresa and I took a "Grace" walk down the road, three miles worth, in memory of dear mother, who entered eternal life today....18 years ago.  Where has all the time gone?  It was a wild Thanksgiving eve and day back then...with all the banks of snow.  Today we look back and know that was a wonderful day for her, sad for us, but we rejoiced too in her fidelity to the end.  We gave her a good sendoff dispite the elements. Thanks, Mother.  We have not forgotten you.

 

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with David, Cindy, Rachel and Josh, plus a houseful of guests.  We enjoyed the finest of cuisine, and great celebration.  We stayed for about 8 or more hours.  We had forgotten our pajamas, or we may have extended it even longer.

 

I thought of all of you during the day.  At morning Mass, Bishop John Kinney reminded us to let our families know we love them and thank them.  These are my sentiments for all of you.  This blog shows the beauty of our family.  Thank you for keeping us posted, Bev.  It is my daily portion for fun and connection each and every day, as we celebrate the important days of our family.  I LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING MY FAMILY!!

Anyone for birthday cake today??

In case you didn't get enough to eat yesterday, you can always drop in at one of our birthday celebrants to share cake with.....there are three of them today....Mike Korkowski (#54), Jan (Korkowski) Campbell (#43), and Troy Magnuson (#39). Happy birthday, "gang"!

At the end of the day.....

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.
THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION..SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE. GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND. I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE. BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.
MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP. MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP. MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS. MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE, MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

GQ magazine, we have a guy for you.....none other than birthday boy Ed Korkowski (#41)! Looking good, Ed....hope you have a great birthday as well as a Happy Thanksgiving. The turkey will taste just as good in Florida as it does in Minnesota. Happy birthday!

Birthday cake today, pumpkin pie tomorrow!

Forget about calories this weekend.....Nate Korkowski (#28) gets to "have his cake and eat it too" plus look forward to pumpkin pie tomorrow! Hope you enjoy your birthday and the weekend to come; happy birthday, Nate!

More on remembering......

The following email came from a classmate who is sort of a Korkowski-by-proxy. His foster parents were Al & Ruby Korkowski. He keeps abreast of Korkowski news in his newly retired life!
My classmate, Bev, may have been in Physics, but I was in basic Geometry Class, a junior in a roomful of sophomores at Jefferson High. Mrs. Hokanson was a no-nonsense instructor, so after Mr. Rykken made the awful announcement over the intercom that day and patched in the radio coverage, she valiantly tried to ignore it and soldier on with her day's lesson plan. One of the sophomore girls put her head on the desk and sobbed, and that did it. The lesson ceased.
The basketball team from St. Louis Park had already left for Alexandria for the first game of the season, so the game was played that Friday night, in a quiet gym before a small, somber crowd.

This is my memory

I was standing in the hallway at St Mary's in Millerville.  I was in the hallway at the bottom of the stairway going up to the 1st and 2nd grade rooms, I think there was also a water fountain in that area. Anyway , I heard it first from my classmate John Zacher.. I was 8        . MIKE

What a great memory!!

You aren’t going to believe it, but I remember where I was. (see entry re: Kennedy)
We lived in a 1-1/2 story in Columbia Heights, and Dad was working on finishing the upper level. There was a half-wall enclosing the stairway, and I remember looking around end of the half-wall, and seeing Dad on the top of a ladder working on a ceiling light fixture.
Turns out, that’s what Dad was doing when he got the news from my Mom that Kennedy was shot. It’s my first memory, and the only memory I have from living in that house. I was a year and a half old.

Where I was...

Hi,  I remember very well where I was.  Our class was having a music lesson in the basement of St. Mary's School.  Sister Austin told us that the President had been shot but did not know any more details.  About an hour later, Father Botz came and addressed each class and told us with tears in his eyes that the President was assassinated.  Those next days were spent completed glued to the TV.  What an event in history!!!  Mom and Dad and the kids watched every moment from Friday afternoon to the funeral.  Hard to believe how many years have passed since that day.  Theresa

For all you baby boomers....bet you can remember exactly what you were doing and where you were when this news broke back in 1963....."John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top convertible." Post your memories or send them to me and I'll post them. I remember distinctly that it was lunch hour at Jefferson Sr. High when we got the news; even being the only girl in the otherwise all-male physics class lost its luster that day!

Hello, Mark, thank you for that great picture of Austin.  It is wonderful to see so much talent in the Korkowski family.  I am not insulted by the reference to the hair - was afraid you were going to compare my dental work with his.  I will continue to experiment with various hair styles as I mature.  I am going to do the poodle perm next, I think......  Theresa

Ever hear of Dorset?

While many of the Korkowski's either golfed or fished during the weekend in Park Rapids this summer, some of the ladies decided to check out what the hamlet of Dorset had to offer. Not only does it have quite the ice cream parlor, but it plays host to a good garage sale now and then too.

It's been 9 days but we have a winner (or a birthday)

I know it's hard to believe that the Kork family can go for such a long stretch without a birthday or anniversary, but here we are nine (9) days out from the last celebration day. And, the birthday girl today is Kelly Dupont (Mike & Brenda Magnuson Dupont) who turns 8. Happy birthday, Kelly; hope you have a great birthday!

Some lighter moments...what the heck are they doing???

Here are some lighter moments captured during the Korkowski 2009 weekend at Dave & Cindy's. One must ask the question "what the heck are they doing??" Top to bottom: 1) Patty Korkowski checking little Haley Korkowski's (Nate & Edith) backside?? 2) Norb Korkowski apparently thought the slugs were the appetizer for the evening?? and 3) last but not least, Mark Korkowski apparently got this headgear someplace and just couldn't wait until winter to show it off (it was only June after all!)

The Very Hungry Caterpillar...

	Pictures for you! From: jennifer majhess Here is one of 6 caterpillars Joseph found in our yard yesterday. We 'Googled' it and found it is a Tetria Sphinx Moth from Costa Rica and has somehow landed on our 'Frangy Pangy' tree. Our local nature center took 3 of them and after Joseph & Ellie take them to school Monday for show and tell they want them to donate the rest. Enjoy!!
