Jim & Judi's families in Fargo/Moorhead

Part of an email note from Judi on how Jill, Jackie, and Jean and their families are doing with the flood waters around them.

“Jill, Jackie & Colby, Jean, Mya & Emma came to our house last Friday morning.....their husbands sent them out of town.   They left late Sunday afternoon...with the husband's "OK," and the trip home went fine.

Jill's house is in a bad zone, not under water but close....so she is staying with Jackie & family.  Neither of the girls are working today because of the storm....Chad is out plowing snow.  

I called all 3 girls around noon today...the snow is thinking about slowing up so maybe they'll get a little rest...the river is still above floodstage but so far the dikes and sandbags are holding.  They are all in relatively good spirits...I think they figure the worst is over but know that when all this new snow melts...the river will rise again....they have all done considerable sandbagging and will do more if they have to.   Jill lives right along the river, Jackie lives 3 blocks from the river and Jean further out but the flat land up there lets the water go a long way.

            All are well as of right now...but, need prayers to keep their spirits up....Thanks..Judi”

 

Traveling north today for a birthday

Today's birthday celebration is up in Staples where Kevin Nelson (Julie Korkowski's hubbie) is celebrating (#45). Hopefully the snow and wintry weather won't put a damper on the festivities. Happy birthday, Kevin!

Springtime in Bismarck North Dakota

Don't put those snow blowers and shovels away just yet....this is what's coming your way soon! Just last week, Tom & Caroline Korkowski in Bismarck were moving things in the basement because of rising flood waters, now they have rising piles of snow. Only in the good old midwest do we experience such a beautiful spring!

Doug's a year older (and wiser?)

Ten years and counting.....

On this day 10 years ago, Joe and Jennifer (Korkowski) Majhess were married on the beach in Key West Florida. It was warm and beautiful as we had a champagne toast during the sunset after the wedding. (Oh, to be warm today!!) Happy anniversary as you toast again tonight to the 10 years past and the years to come.

Spring Break Surprise

Staci and I were in the Houston airport waiting for our flight when I was paged to the counter only to see Joe waiting there.  Staci had arranged for him to join us in Florida during our Spring Break.  We were able to pack 10 days of activities into Joe's 4 days going golfing, hitting a few beaches, getting really sunburnt, going to a St. Patick's Day Parade, and going to a Twins game.

When I grow up....I wanna be a doctor!

Birthday greetings go down to Rochester where Shawn Oxentenko (#37) is celebrating today. I know there are three little kids who will be really excited about having a piece of daddy's birthday cake! Happy birthday, Shawn!

Anniversary in Texas

It was 14 years ago today that Jim and Staci Korkowski exchanged "I do"s, so best wishes are sent down to sunny Texas. For what it's worth, the traditional gift for a 14th anniversary is ivory, and the jewelry is opal and gold. So, Staci, give Jim an elephant for the ivory, and Jim, guess what you're left to buy? Happy anniversary!

Memories from Dennis (and Cliff too)

Bub's Place is where I got my start. Beer was 10 cents a glass, sometimes only 5. I can't remember how old I was, must have been 18, more or less. Bub's was the only place I know where you could sometimes order sunfish for dinner. Dennis

That’s where I smoked my first cigar (and the last one for a looonnnggg time). Also bought my first beer for $.10 when we were chopping wood with Joe A. Roers and driving home with a load of wood with the tractor and hay rack during Holy Week.

Happy Memories

You are right about a lot of history being destroyed by the fire at Bob's old place.  It has many wonderful memories for me as a child and as an adult and we are very sad it is gone.

 

We always were excited as kids to be allowed to bowl a few games.  It was so exciting to put the slippery sand on the board to make it work better!  Then, who was to know that one day I would own Bob's old place or meet my prospective husband there and he would become a co-owner.

 

My best memory is when Norb proposed to me. It was the greatest 4th of July I ever spent anywhere.  Who needed fire works!  We'll never be able to go back to the place it happened since it is nothing but a burned out hole in the ground, but the memory will last forever since it became reality and is LIFE AT IT'S BEST!!!!

Fire in Millerville destroys landmark

Bob's Place in Millerville burned to the ground on Sunday March 15th. This was one of the oldest original buildings in Millerville, and some of the town’s history has been destroyed. This was the home of Donna's Restaurant The Cousins. Every member of the family could tell stories of their experiences in this establishment. Millerville will never be the same.

Double the fun and Emma turns 1!

Three birthdays today....little Emma Pfeifer (Seth and Jean Korkowski Pfeifer) turns 1. Bet there's going to be a big celebration today!

And then we have Megan (Korkowski) and hubby Bill Nicholas who do things up right by both having the same birthday....Megan is 28 and Bill is 33. There are no excuses, ever, for forgetting each other's birthday!

Parlez-vous français?

Staci Korkowski (Tom & Caroline) and her roommate Lucy Perpich are on their way to Europe. They will be backpacking over a week-long spring break. Besides what they are wearing, they are taking an extra pair of jeans and two shirts plus a sweatshirt in order to keep things light. They will be going to Paris, London and Amsterdam, spending about 3 days in each place. They have a friend studying in Paris who speaks French so she will be the tour guide.

Millerville makes the news!

Millerville has its day of celebrity today by being mentioned in the WCCO on-line news with reports of snow totals in the state....."other snowfall reports include 12 inches in Bemidji, 10 1/2 inches in Millerville and 8 inches in Alexandria." Way to go, Millerville!

Korkowski men rule today!

Today Korkowski men have the entire spotlight to themselves...there are three birthdays to celebrate! First, there's Norb who now can claim rights to that Social Security check, turning 65. Then we have Jimmy Pat who has his 40th birthday, and last but not least, there's Ryan who turns 26 today. Lots of candles burning on the three cakes together! Have a good one, guys!

A Good Lenten Story

Lars, a Norwegian from Cook County in northern Minnesota, was an older, single gentleman who was born and raised a Lutheran. Each Friday night after work, he would fire up his grill and cook a venison steak. Now, all of Lars' neighbors were Catholic. Since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Fridays. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to the priest. The priest came to visit Lars and suggested that Lars convert to Catholicism. After several classes and much study, Lars attended Mass. As the priest sprinkled holy water over Lars, he said, "You were born a Lutheran and raised a Lutheran, but now you are a Catholic." Lars' neighbors were greatly relieved, until Friday night arrived and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighborhood. The priest was called immediately by the neighbors As he rushed into Lars' yard, clutching a rosary and preparing to scold Lars, he stopped in amazement and watched. There stood Lars, holding a small bottle of water, which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted, "You were born a deer and raised a deer, but now you are a walleye."

Jacob, age 92, and Rebecca, age 89, living in Florida,
are all excited about their decision to get married. They
go for a stroll to discuss the wedding, and on the way
they pass a CVS/Pharmacy. Jacob suggests they go in.
Jacob addresses the man behind the counter:
"Are you the Pharmacist?"
The pharmacist answers, "Yes."
Jacob: "We're about to get married. Do you sell heart
medication?"
Pharmacist: "Of course we do."
Jacob: "How about medicine for circulation?"
Pharmacist: "All kinds ."
Jacob: "Medicine for rheumatism and scoliosis?"
Pharmacist: "Definitely."
Jacob: "How about Viagra?"
Pharmacist: "Of course."
Jacob: "Medicine for memory problems, arthritis,
jaundice?"
Pharmacist: "Yes, a large variety.. The works."
Jacob: "What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol,
antidotes for Parkinson's disease?"
Pharmacist: "Absolutely."
Jacob: "You sell wheelchairs and walkers?"
Pharmacist: "All speeds and sizes."
Jacob: "We'd like to use this store as our Bridal Registry."

Oh My Gosh!!!

Hi, Imagine my shock when I opened this up at school and saw this
rather frightening photo. What is really scary is I probably had my
whole head in rollers all night to look like this! I am glad that
those Extreme Makeover folks were not around those days. This is
indeed humbling. I do think, though, that the dress is quite
fashionable. Where are these pictures coming from? I thought that
this one was long since destroyed. Actually, it is fun to look at
them. Keep them coming. Theresa

All I can say is that when Cliff saw this picture, he started to laugh and said something about a bad hair day!

She passed

Hi, I had a message on my answering machine tonight when we got home.
It was Rosemary annnouncing that Felicia passed the tests that she
had to take this weekend. Both Mama and Daughter were excited!
Rosemary wanted me to pass along thanks for all the positive thoughts
and prayers sent Felicia's way this weekend. Congratulations, Felicia
- now the boards!!!!
